| Nice work!
Since the smart contract can't be modified, does it give room to new contracts which can be deployed to update the old one? or are there other alternatives to make the contract flexible and user friendly? |
Hello, Thank you for your question.
In the proposed model, in order to update, a new contract must be created after the current contract is terminated. If you think about it efficiently, it is good to write the contract so that it can be updated when first implemented. Since Smart Contract is considered to be a finance critical system(software), updates are impossible, I think it is important to conduct formal verification before distribution. Thanks. |

| The paper mentions that onece the smart contract is deployed, it can't be modified. What if the smart contract need to be modified due to the changes of laws or regulations? Do you provide solutions for this circumstances? |
Hello, Thank you for your questions.
The basic principle is that once a smart contract is deployed, it cannot be modified (because it is blockchain-based).
Therefore, it is important to ensure that there are no errors and contradictions through formal specifications prior to deployment.
As said in the question, if a smart contract needs to be modified due to a change in law or regulation,
Basically, when implementing a smart contract, there is a way to implement it so that it can be upgraded.
The contract address should not change, the information from the existing contract should not disappear, and there should be multiple contracts.
The version must be the same even during the upgrade.
There is also a way to reconnect the chain by cutting the blockchain itself with a hard fork and a soft fork.
Currently, modeling does not provide a solution for this situation.
It seems like a good way to verify by formal modeling a smart contract that can cope with this situation in future research.
Thanks for the question. |

| Since it is the financial contract, is it available to do content changing of the original contract when needed? and any method for verification? |
Hello, Thank you for your question.
In the proposed model, the seller(beneficiary) provides auction time, initial proposed price, lowest proposed price, deduction amount, and deduction time when deploying smart contracts.
And buyers(bidders) who want to participate in the auction can only check the current price.
Therefore, you should check the current price periodically.
In my opinion, in Dutch auctions, it is important to be able to win the auction by bidding the most if the price you want to buy, so I thought that there was no need to inform the internal contents of the contract.
And there is a way to change the contents of the original contract.
However, as the questioner said, the financial contract is considered a critical system (contract).
Modeling was carried out because it was thought that it was important to distribute it after proving that it is a perfect contract(not errors and contradictions) before distribution through formal modeling, rather than changing the contents of the original contract.
Thank you. |

| In order to test the proposed model, this paper simulate some trading scenarios and discuss the results. I am wondering that is there any other methods can verify the effectiveness of your model besides simulation? For example, is there any public online trading databases or historical trading data that are available for model verification? |
Hello, Thank you for your question. In this paper, after the simulation, formal verification was performed using TCTL. Therefore, it was confirmed that the requirements of the Dutch auction presented at the beginning were satisfied. Simulation alone is not possible to prove that a model is suitable. So I verified it using TCTL and I think it is correct because it is based on math. And there are no public online trading databases or historical trading data. We are going to implement a smart contract based on a model that has been verified in a future study. Thanks. |

| That's interesting. I have one question. When going from the checkBidding location to the end location, the bidder's model updates the beneficiaryAccount value. Is it reasonable to do it in the bidder's model? Shouldn't the smart contract model update the seller's balance? |
Hello, Thank you for your question.
The reasons for updating the price in the bidder model in the proposed model are as follows:
This is because I thought that if the bidder was a reasonable price(wants to purchase) and made a transaction, time was an important property in the auction, so I thought that the price should change immediately in bidder model.
Of course, when a transaction occurs, checking whether the transaction is correct is done through proof of work inside the blockchain.
The current model is a high-level model, not that level model.
If you model a low-level model by subdividing it, I think that price fluctuations should occur in the contract model as the questioner said.
Thanks for the good question. We will refer to it in future research.
Thanks. |
