| First of all, thank you for the good research paper and presentation contents. I would like to know more about the research environment used in this study, and also in detail about the equipment & operating systems, development languages and software libraries you used. |
Thank you for the question.
The equipment, OS, and software libraries used in this study as follows.
- Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ (as a publisher, a broker, and subscribers)
-OS: Raspbian 4.14
- Raspberry Pi Zero WH boards (as a publisher and subscribers)
-OS: Raspbian 4.14
- Mosquitto versions 5.0 (as MQTT broker software)
- GMP-6.1.2 (as Multi-precision arithmetic library)
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2019, macOS 10.15 Catalina as software development PC)
- C language (as the development language) |

| You have used a threshold secret sharing scheme in your proposed system.
Could you let me know which threshold secret sharing algorithm (Shamir, XOR, etc.) did you implement?
And I would also like to know how you decided to choose it. |
Thank you for the question.
We use Shamir's threshold secrecy algorithm in our proposed system because it is the most famous and basic one and a slow algorithm.
There are faster threshold secret sharing algorithms available, but we have used Shamir's algorithm to avoid evaluating it in favor of the proposed system. |

| Very interesting paper :)
Have you measured the computational overhead as well? For example, the CPU and RAM usage. |
Thank you for the question.
We also measured the computational load. Even with the low-performance Raspberry Pi Zero WH, the CPU utilization was less than 50% on average. The memory utilization was less than 128MB. |

| Dear author, you have a very interesting research. Could you please let me know more about the related work of this research? Thank you and stay safe. |
Thank you for the question.
A. Niruntasukrat, C. Issariyapat, P. Pongpaibool, K. Meesublak, P. Aiumsupucgul and A. Panya, ``Authorization mechanism for MQTT-based Internet of Things,'' in Proceedings of 2016 IEEE International Conference on Communications Workshops (ICC), pp. 290-295, doi: 10.1109/ICCW.2016.7503802, 2016.
This paper is one of the closely related studies to ours.
This paper proposed an authorization mechanism for MQTT by considering the limited computational resources of IoT devices. The proposed mechanism is based on the OAuth 1.0a protocol and adopts several modifications to accommodate the restrictions of IoT devices. The authors tested the design on a real MQTT-based IoT service platform. They verified its successful operation with minimal authorization delay and message overhead without affecting the user experience. However, this mechanism only provides authorization services and does not support data encryption between the publisher and subscribers. |
