On high-speed WANs, bandwidth is high but RTT is also large, so the bandwidth–delay product becomes huge. For reliable transports, each loss event triggers feedback and retransmission, and the recovery latency is fundamentally bounded by the control-loop RTT. Even modest random loss can therefore reduce goodput far below line rate. Our goal is to shorten the recovery loop: instead of paying the end-to-end RTT, we repair losses within one WAN segment RTT using hop-local mechanisms. | |
