To tackle with this challenge, Model Predictive Control provides a promising way. It is powerful to treat the constrained optimization problems that have multi-inputs and multi outputs. It can improve energy efficiency and adapt better to disturbances compared to traditional methods. Studies show that MPC can achieve up to 43% energy savings compared to conventional PI controllers. To further enhance performance, Hierarchical MPC (H-MPC) structure was proposed, which consists of a planning layer and an operating layer. This approach uses two MPC controllers with different sampling times and prediction horizons on both layers. It helps reduce computational time while maintaining or even improving energy efficiency. Our goal is to develop a computationally efficient predictive control system for refrigerated vans using this hierarchical architecture. |
