	Texture analysis is a fundamental aspect of pavement evaluation and has traditionally relied on standardized texture indicators obtained from 3D surface measurements or statistical analysis of 2D images. More recently, machine learning approaches, particularly convolutional neural networks, have been used to automatically learn complex texture features. In addition, fusing data from multiple sensors such as cameras, LiDAR, and IMUs further enhances the accuracy and robustness of pavement texture characterization under varying operating conditions.
