In the Separate Response mode, a CoAP client sends a CON request to the server and expects an Empty ACK confirming receipt followed by a CON-type Response carrying the requested data. When the Empty ACK is delayed or lost, the clients retransmission timer expires prematurely, leading to an unnecessary duplicate request. This can result in the server retransmiting its response even though the original response is still in transit hence creating redundant messaging.
