You mentioned the use of a floating threshold method to shape the signal envelope into rectangular pulse trains. Could you elaborate on how the choice of this threshold impacts the accuracy of the PRI estimation? Specifically, are there any challenges related to selecting the optimal threshold value in varying signal conditions? The choice of the floating threshold significantly impacts the accuracy of PRI estimation. When the threshold is set too low, the shaped rectangular pulse train may contain excessive noise-induced "false pulses." These false pulses will lead to incorrect identification of pulse arrival and end times, thus distorting the calculated PRI values. For example, in a scenario with high - intensity background noise, if the threshold is set at a value close to the noise level, noise spikes could be misinterpreted as valid pulse signals. Conversely, if the threshold is set too high, some weak but valid pulses might be missed. In a multi - radar environment where signals from different radars have varying intensities, setting a high threshold could cause the loss of pulses from weaker radars. This would result in an incomplete set of pulse data for PRI calculation, leading to inaccurate PRI estimation. In varying signal conditions, selecting the optimal threshold indeed poses challenges. Signal - to - noise ratio (SNR) can change rapidly in real - world scenarios. To address this, we can implement an adaptive threshold - setting algorithm. For instance, we can calculate the statistical characteristics of the received signal in real - time, such as the mean and variance of the signal envelope amplitude. Based on these statistics, we can adjust the threshold proportionally. In a high - SNR environment, the threshold can be set relatively higher to filter out potential noise, while in a low - SNR environment, the threshold can be adjusted lower to ensure that weak signals are not overlooked. This way, we can maintain the accuracy of PRI estimation across different signal conditions.
